This €2 commemorative coin commemorates 25 Years of German Unity.

The mandate which the German constitution gave to the German people "to complete the unity and freedom of Germany" was fulfilled on 3 October 1990.

The design features people in the foreground, which embodies a new dawn and a new beginning; they are standing in front of the Brandenburg Gate, the symbol of German unity. Their declaration of will, "Wir sind ein Volk“ ("We are one people"), represents the path leading to German Reunification.

The coin’s edge is embossed with the inscription: "EINIGKEIT UND RECHT UND FREIHEIT“ ("UNITY, JUSTICE AND FREEDOM", a line from the German National Anthem) as well as with a stylised federal eagle.
