The seventh release in the annual German Federation series features the largest and oldest state in the Federal Republic of Germany, Bavaria.
Bavaria is located in the southeast of Germany and is the largest state by area with almost 20% of the total land area of Germany. Bavaria is Germany's second most populous state with almost 12.5 million people, and its capital is Munich. Many large companies are headquartered in Bavaria, such as BMW, Siemens, Audi, Allianz, MAN, and Adidas. Its GDP per capita is over $48,000, making it 7th in the world if it were an independent country.
The reverse of the coin shows Neuschwanstein Castle, one of Europe's most popular with 1.3 million visitors per year. Built by the very shy King Ludwig II in 1869, Neuschweinstein is also known as "the castle of the fairy-tale king" as it ironically was built in order for the king to withdraw from public life.
