Issue I: The Mintmaster Star Coins
|
Item Number: 17065
For more than 165 years, a star has been used as a hidden mark on certain Norwegian coins in order to separate them from other coins with the same year date minted under a different mint master. So far, this has occurred only five times in Norwegian numismatic history, in 1835, 1841, 1980, 1994 and 2001. This set features six of the modern star coins presented in an illustrative and informative cover - four coins from 1980 (5-øre, 10-øre, 25-øre and 50-øre) and two of the three coins from 2001 (50-øre og 1-krone). The 2001 20-krone is not included as it never was released into regular circulation, but was only minted in 10,000 pcs. in brilliant uncirculated quality for the annual issue. Also, the star coins from 1994 are not included as they were exclusively struck with a star, and not with their regular design. The issue limit for this set is 3,850 pcs.
