With a history that is believed to date back more than 3,000 years, China is one of the world’s oldest civilisations. Deeply rooted with a storied past, it’s no surprise that Chinese culture is full of ancient tradition, rich heritage and mythical folklore.

The perfect example of this is the Chinese zodiac which fully encompasses all three. Established in 2014 with the release of the Year of the Horse coin, The Lunar Collection celebrates the lunar calendar and honours the various animals of the Chinese zodiac.

Continuing this annual tradition into 2027, The Royal Mint is proud to commemorate the 8th symbol in the 12-year cycle as we celebrate the Lunar Year of the Goat.

The Goat, also known as the Sheep or Ram, is a symbol of gentleness, kindness, and peace in Chinese culture. People born in the year of the Goat are often considered artistic, compassionate, and nurturing. They are believed to have a calm and harmonious nature, fostering supportive environments for those around them. Although Goat people may look gentle on the surface, they usually also possess a strong inner resilience, always insisting on their own opinions in their minds.

Presented with a traditional red envelope, perfect for giving as a gift. The coin’s packaging artfully reflects the lunar calendar and Chinese culture.
