Created in collaboration with the National Science Museum Group, this issue celebrates the legendary Duchess of Hamilton steam locomotive.
The Duchess of Hamilton (LMS No. 6229) is a legendary Art Deco, streamlined steam locomotive built in 1938 for the London, Midland and Scottish Railway (LMS). Designed by Sir William Stanier, this 4-6-2 "Pacific" engine was built to pull luxury express trains between London and Glasgow, famously reaching speeds of over 114 mph.
The wonderfully detailed reverse design depicts the famous locomotive on its way to Glasgow from London.
The obverse of the coin features the official coinage portrait of His Majesty King Charles III.
Accompanied by detailed packaging that brings Duchess of Hamilton’s fascinating story to life. |
