This issue honors the 450th anniversary of the death of Italian
Renaissance painter, Tiziano Vecellio.
Tiziano Vecellio (Titian) (1488/1490-1576) was an Italian Renaissance painter. Widely considered the most important artist of Venetian Renaissance painting, Titian was equally adept with portraits, landscape backgrounds, and mythological and religious subjects.
The reverse depicts the "Allegory of Wisdom" (Allegoria della Sapienza), an extract from Titian's 1560 oil painting, which is on display in the ceiling at the Marciana National Library in Venice.
The obverse is the standard 2 euro design featuring a map of Europe and the denomination.
