Over its century-long history, the Academy of Athens has been promoting Science, Letters and Fine Arts, as well as scientific research and scholarship.
The Academy of Athens was founded on March 18, 1926, as the highest research and scientific establishment in modern Greece.
Its goal is to promote advancement in the natural sciences, humanities, fine arts, and moral and political sciences.
The Academy occupies a famous 19th-century neoclassical landmark on Panepistimiou Street designed by Danish architect Theophil Hansen, forming part of Athens' renowned architectural trilogy alongside the National Library and the University of Athens.
