In 2026, Monnaie de Paris is celebrating the 400th anniversary of the French Navy with a 2 Euro commemorative coin.
The French Navy is celebrating its 400th anniversary in 2026, marking four centuries of maritime history originating from the Edict of October 1626 under Cardinal Richelieu and King Louis XIII. It is one of the oldest continuously serving navies globally, pioneering innovations like the first ocean-going ironclad warship (La Gloire) and early operational submarines.
The obverse features a sailor seen from behind, wearing a pea coat, symbol of the institution, topped with a “bâchi”, the legendary headgear of the French Navy. The coin also depicts the various ships and aircrafts used by the French Navy.
The reverse is the 2€ common reverse to all countries in Europe. The face value "2 euro" appears in front of the map of Europe. |
