This is the eighth coin in the Royal Tudor Beasts Collection which represents the ten heraldic beasts that flank the Moat Bridge of Hampton Court Palace, representing the lineage of Henry VIII and his third wife, Jane Seymour.
Ten stone beasts line the Moat Bridge of Hampton Court Palace, both real beasts and mythical creatures, representing the lineage of Henry VIII and his third wife Jane Seymour.
When the House of Lancaster overcame the House of York following the Wars of the Roses, a formidable dynasty was born. Henry VII, following his matrimonial union with Elizabeth of York to unite the houses, was keen to emphasise the legitimacy of his reign.
The reverse is based on the Greyhound of Richmond sculpture that stands at the mouth of the gate on the iconic Moat Bridge at Hampton Court Palace.
This Brilliant Uncirculated cupro-nickel coin is housed in a blister-pack type folder with informative text and illustrations that explores the heraldry of Henry VIII and his third wife.
