Celebrates 200 years of the modern railway and the seminal journey that changed the world.
In 1825, George Stephenson built the locomotive "Locomotion No. 1" for the Stockton and Darlington Railway in the North East of England, which became the first public steam railway in the world. Stephenson played a pivotal role in the development and widespread adoption of the steam locomotive. His designs considerably improved on the work of the earlier pioneers.
The reverse portrays the revolutionary journey that took place on 27 September, 1825.
The obverse features King Charles III's head in profile.
Comes with packaging that explores the huge impact the railway has had on people’s lives since 1825.
