This release honors the 150th anniversary of the death of composer Georges Bizet.

It is the second coin in the series honoring the masters who have left their mark on the history of music, following the tribute paid to Giacomo Puccini in 2024.

Georges Bizet (1838-1875) was the romantic genius of French opera, regarded as one of the greatest composers of the 19th century.

The music of Bizet combines unforgettable melodies, great dramatic intensity and exotic atmospheres. Although he composed operas, as well as symphonic and chamber music, his fame is inextricably linked to Carmen (1875), one of the world's most performed masterpieces to date. The role of Carmen is one of the most captivating roles ever written for female vocalists, and the opera is among the most beloved in the repertoire today.

The reverse depicts a scene from Bizet's masterpiece, Carmen.  The obverse features the coat of arms of the Republic of San Marino.
