This issue honors the Catholic Church's Jubilee Year 2025, themed "Pilgrims of Hope."

The Jubilee Year 2025 commenced on Christmas Eve 2024 with the opening of the Holy Door in St. Peter's Basilica, Rome, and continues until January 6, 2026, offering a time for spiritual renewal and forgiveness.

Millions of pilgrims are expected to travel to Rome and other holy sites to participate in Jubilee events and seek spiritual renewal.

On the obverse of the coin, the female figure in the centre of the composition holds a child, symbol of humanity, by the hand and is ready to lead it on the pilgrimage path; her gaze is turned towards the star, a powerful and universal emblem of guidance. Behind the woman's image is a stylised anchor, a metaphor for hope and an evocative element of the cross.

The reverse is the standard pan-European reverse of the €2 coin.
