Commemorative 2 euro coin in honor of the May 9, 1950 Schuman Declaration, which promoted political and economic cooperation and unification among European countries.

Based on the Schuman plan, six countries signed a treaty to run their coal and steel industries under a common management. In this way, no single country can make the weapons of war to turn against others, as in the past. The six were Germany, France, Italy, the Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg.

The Schuman Plan was a milestone in European integration and construction because it marked the beginning of reconciliation between France and Germany, a vital first step to building any international organisation in Western Europe.
