This is the fifth and last issue honoring Latvia's five historical regions, and focuses on Selija.
Previous issues have highlighted Vidzeme, Latgale, Kurzeme and Zemgale.
Sēlija was referenced in historical records as early as the 13th century, yet it was not until 2021, with its formal inclusion in the Law on Historical Regions of Latvia, that Sēlija was defined as a distinct cultural and historical region.
The national side of the coin depicts the coat of arms of Sēlija.
The reverse shows the universal design of a 2 euro coin: a map of Europe.
