This release is a tribute to the art and histroy of the Louvre, the largest museum in the world, and a French national treasure attracting millions of visitors annually.

The obverse depicts a stylized view of the eastern façade of the museum building. The yeardate, hallmarks and RF (Republique Francais) are placed inside of the design of the museum's exterior.

The BU coin comes in four different sealed credit card-style packaging designs, each one featuring a design of either Psyche Revived by Cupid's Kiss (Antonio Canova), the Venus de Milo (Ancient Greece), the Winged Victory of Samothrace (Ancient Greece), or the Mona Lisa (Leonardo da Vinci), all masterpieces in the Louvre's vast collections.

The reverse is the 2€ common reverse to all countries in Europe. The face value "2 euro" appears in front of the map of Europe.   In the background, the glass pyramid stands out from the rest of the composition as an iconic symbol of the Louvre.
