First introduced in 2017, the Museum Masterpieces-series pays tribute to the greatest masterpieces which are part of renowned collections in French museums, or those painted in France.
In 2025, Monnaie de Paris honors two inseparable portraits - the only known life-size portraits painted by Rembrandt - Marten Soolmans and Oopjen Coppit, painted in 1634. Jointly acquired in 2016 by the Louvre and the Rijksmuseum, the pair will be on display in Paris for the next five years.
Although painted individually, the portraits have never been seperated since the 17th century. Under the agreement between France and the Netherlands, they must always be exhibited together in the future as well.
The reverse is common to the series. It depicts several views of many major French museums.
