Commemorating the 1100th anniversary of the Croatian Kingdom, this release features the image of King Tomislav - the most renowned ruler of early medieval Croatia.
Tomislav was the first king of Croatia. He became Duke of Croatia c. 910 and was crowned king by 925, reigning until c. 928. During Tomislav's rule, Croatia forged an alliance with the Byzantine Empire against Bulgaria.
The obverse of the coin presents King Tomislav’s profile adorned with his distinctive crown, while the reverse is decorated with an olive tree—a symbol of strength, wisdom, and peace.
Croatia adopted the Euro as legal tender as of January 1, 2023, thus becoming the 20th member of the euro zone.
