This release celebrates the 25th anniversary of UNESCO including the Spiennes flint mines on its World Heritage List.

The Spiennes Flint Mines were included in the UNESCO World Heritage List of Natural and Cultural World Heritage Sites in 2000. These Neolithic mines were discovered by accident during the 19th century during the construction of a railway line. They are one of the oldest witnesses of human industrial activity in Europe. Between 4200 and 2500 years before our era, huge quantities of flint were mined here, on an area of more than 100 hectares.

The reverse depicts a realistic representation of a flint hand axe, set in a rustic textured setting (the entrance to the flint mine) around which an English inscription has been elaborated in perfectly matching typography.
