Vatican City (officially the State of the Vatican City) is a landlocked sovereign city-state whose territory consists of a walled enclave within the city of Rome, the capital city of Italy. At approximately 44 hectares (110 acres), and with a population of around 900, it is the smallest country in the world by both area and population.

On the reverse of the 20 euro silver coin, artist Marianna Frisone depicts an image representing slander by placing two figures in the centre of the coin: a woman speaking into a man’s ear and on the left side a little angel who, with his index finger resting on his lips, signals silence, thus expressing a warning to measure one’s words carefully.
