The traditional St. Nicholas Day is celebrated on December 6, and in Switzerland, especially in Fribourg, in central Switzerland and in many towns and villages, this festival has a very special magic.
The festivities for St. Nicholas Day bring the population together in a cheerful atmosphere. Amazed children wait impatiently for the arrival of the patron saint, accompanied by his faithful helper, the servant Ruprecht or Schmutzli.
The reverse has St. Nicholas depicted with miter and crosier, surrounded by landscapes reminiscent of its history and its influence in Swiss culture (colorized in red on the PROOF version).
