The design shows a rendition of the Maltese honey bee (Apis Mellifera Ruttneri) with a flower and a honeycomb in the background. The coin raises awareness of one of Malta's endemic species and encapsulates the work of the bee which pollinates flowers and makes honey.
The obverse’s outer ring bears the 12 stars of the European flag. |
