Malta became a republic on 13 December 1974, following constitutional amendments approved by the Maltese's Parliament.
The reverse features a marble tablet displayed on the façade of the Presidential Palace in Valletta, commemorating Malta's historic transition from a monarchy to a republic. On the obverse is the coat of arms of the Republic of Malta together with the year of issue. |
