This release honors the 150th Anniversary of the birth of Guglielmo Marconi, and also 100 years since the first radio broadcast in Italy.

The obverse features a portrait of a young Guglielmo Marconi (1874-1937), inventor of the telegraph, sitting behind a radio transmitter used for his first experiments with the aim of developing a remote wireless telecommunications system. Also find a representation of sound waves and the handwritten signature of the Italian physicist.

The reverse shows a stylized composition of figurative elements representative of radio broadcasts: a microphone, headphones, sound waves, with a globe in the background. Above is the inscription “RADIO RAI 100 ◦ DA MARCONI AL DIGITALE”, delimited by the colours of the Italian flag; below, on the left, the acronyms “URI-EIAR-RAI”, names of the Italian Radio and Television over the years, and “1924-2024”, respectively the date of the first Italian radio broadcast and the year of the coin’s issue.
