This issue highlights Finland's architectural history and its unique qualities, especially the architecture studio of Gesellius, Lindgren & Saarinen (1896-1905).

At the end of the 19th century, Finns' self-esteem and national pride were largely built up with the help of architecture. Gesellius, Lindgren & Saarinen were personally responsible for these course changes in architecture.

Gesellius, Lindgren, Saarinen was a Finnish architecture firm, founded in Helsinki in 1896 by architects Herman Gesellius, Armas Lindgren and Eliel Saarinen. They achieved international recognition with their design for the Finnish pavilion at the Paris World Expo in 1900, which was designed in the then prevailing Art Nouveau style.

In 1901–1904 the three architects designed and built an extensive studio home for themselves and their families called Hvitträsk in the rural community of Kirkkonummi by Vitträsk lake. In 1905 the company ceased operations and the National Museum of Finland was their last work. Its construction was monitored by Lindgren alone.

The obverse features the buildings that the trio of architects built, namely the National Museum, Hvitträsk, Tallberg's House and the Finnish pavilion at the Paris World Expo along with their surnames. The coin’s outer ring bears the 12 stars of the European flag.

The common reverse has a map of Europe with the denomination shown in Latin characters.
