The world of fairy tales would be a less imaginative place if Ivana Brlić-Mažuranić, an exceptional Croatian writer, had not left her mark on it. Her fairy tales have marked generations, not only in Croatia but also worldwide. Gifted in many ways, especially in foreign languages, she began writing poetry, essays, and journals at a very young age. She captured the literary audience’s attention in 1913 with the novel “Čudnovate zgode šegrta Hlapića” (“The Wonderful Adventures of Hlapich”), and her most famous work, the collection of folk tales “Priče iz davnine” (“Tales from Long Ago”), was published in 1916. Today, it represents the crown jewel of Croatian children’s literature.

The obverse has a portrait of Ivana Brlić-Mažuranić in a distinctive, lyrical style, faithfully reflecting the spirit of her works. The reverse features a symbolic scene from her fairy tales “Tales from Long Ago,” with a large tree in the forest under which stands a mythical character, one of the many characters from her stories.

The coin is delivered in a jewel case with a certificate.
