From 1 January to 30 June 2024, Belgium holds the Presidency of the Council of the European Union. The presidency is awarded to one member state for six months on a revolving basis.

Among other things, Belgium will focus on topical issues such as security, social policy, the green transition and economic growth. As the Belgian presidency falls at the end of a Commission legislature, the country also wants to lay a solid foundation for the EU's strategic agenda for the period 2024-2029. In this way, it can help define the major directions the EU will take in the near future.
