This issue honors the 150th anniversary of the death of the famous writer and poet Alessandro Manzoni (1785-1873). Manzoni is one of the most important figures of 19th century Italian literature, whose works contributed to the formation of the modern Italian language.
The design features Manzoni’s portrait and signature. To the right behind the inkwell and quill are the opening words of his famous historical novel “I Promessi Sposi” (The Betrothed). On the left is a laurel branch as a sign of the enduring fame of the great writer.
