This issue honors the 500th anniversary of the death of the Italian painter Pietro Perugino.

Pietro Perugino (c. 1446/1452 – 1523), born Pietro Vannucci, was an Italian Renaissance painter of the Umbrian school who developed some of the qualities that found classic expression in the High Renaissance. Raphael was his most famous pupil.

The obverse shows the Virgin Mary with Baby Jesus depicted in the centre, a detail from the painting "Madonna and Child, Saint Sebastian and Saint John the Baptist" (1493), an oil painting on wood panel on display in the Uffizi Galleries, Florence. Commissioned by Cornelia Salviati, widow of the Florentine merchant Giovanni Martini, for the chapel in the church of the convent of San Domenico in Fiesole, the painting was restored in 1995 and the colors, light and perspective are considered remarkable. Around the edge are the twelve stars of the European Union.
