This issue honors the 150th anniversary of the death of the famous writer and poet Alessandro Manzoni (1785-1873). Manzoni is one of the most important figures of 19th century Italian literature, whose works contributed to the formation of the modern Italian language.
The obverse features a portrait of Alessandro Manzoni, inspired by the image of the Italian writer on the 100 000 lire banknote issued in 1967.
The reverse features the standard reverse of the €2 coin. |
