This coin depicts the head of a statue representing the god Apollon Hylates, which was discovered in his temple in the ancient city of Tamassos. The statue was sculpted around 460 BC. Parts of the statue are found in various museums all over Europe.

Hylates was a god worshipped on the island of Cyprus who was later likened to the Greek god Apollo.

The reverse depicts the head of Apollon Hylates. The phrase «ΑΠΟΛΛΩΝ ΥΛΑΤΗΣ» is circularly inscribed.

The obverse shows the the emblem of the Central Bank of Cyprus.
