Croatia adopted the Euro as legal tender as of January 1, 2023, thus becoming the 20th member of the euro zone.
Fausto Veranzio (Faust Vrančić) (1551 – 1617) was a polymath and bishop from Šibenik, then part of the Republic of Venice. Veranzio's masterwork, Machinae Novae (1615 or 1616), contained 49 large pictures depicting 56 different machines, devices and technical concepts. One of the illustrations in Machinae Novae is a sketch of a parachute dubbed Homo Volans ("The Flying Man"). He also described vertical axis wind turbines with curved or V-shaped blades.
The reverse shows Veranzio's original drawing, “HOMO VOLANS” – Flying man with the first printed drawing of a parachute. The obverse features a mill in a round tower driven by the power of the wind.
