This issue is the first Croatian 2 euro commemorative coin, and honors the introduction of the euro as a monetary unit in the Republic of Croatia on January 1, 2023.

The design features the horizontal inscriptions “HRVATSKA” (Croatia) and the year of issue “2023," as well as the words “ČLANICA EUROPODRUČJA” (member of the euro area) inscribed along the outer edge of the coin’s center. These inscriptions symbolically form a stylized symbol of the euro sign “€”. The other central motif is Croatia’s distinctive and recognisable symbol, the checkerboard, which represents part of the coat of arms of the Republic of Croatia. The coin’s outer ring depicts the 12 stars of the European flag.
