This release depicts a detail of the dome of Saint Peter’s Basilica.

On the reverse, the artist has reproduced the upper elevation of the Basilica’s façade, where we can admire the dome in all its majesty. On either side we see the two smaller domes and the 13 statues adorning the balustrade above the main entrance to Saint Peter’s Basilica.

Many renowned architects and artists contributed to the design and construction of the dome from the beginning of the 1500s over almost a century: Donato Bramante, Raffaello Sanzio and especially Michelangelo Buonarroti. It is one of the largest masonry roofs ever built, a symbol of both the Church of Rome and human creativity.
