Founded in 1852, the Polizia di Stato (State Police) is the civil national police of Italy. Along with patrolling, investigative and law enforcement duties, it patrols the Autostrada (Italy's Express Highway network), and oversees the security of railways, bridges, and waterways.
The obverse shows two officers from the “Polizia di Stato” (Italian National Police Force), a man and a woman, standing in the foreground of a police car.
Italy has three main national police forces: Polizia di Stato (State Police), Carabinieri and Guardia di Finanza (Financial Guard). |
