The Carabinieri Anti-counterfeiting Monetary Command was founded in 1992 and since then has been conducting investigations into crime involving false currency, particularly active in Italy and becoming an even more dangerous threat following the introduction of the Euro and the consequent enlargement of the false currency market to new countries, some of which are candidates or aspire to join the EU and adopt the euro.

The obverse features the official emblem of the Carabinieri Monetary Anti-Counterfeiting Command inspired by the graphic element most representative of the Carabinieri Corps, namely a reproduction of the 13-pointed flame originating from the euro symbol that here replaces the characteristic grenade. The reverse shows a specialist of the Carabinieri Monetary Anti-Counterfeiting Command wearing his typical lab coat with a braid on the epaulette is depicted analyzing a banknote under a microscope.
