The design features Wartburg Castle in Eisenach.
The federal states series consists of a total of 16 different €2 coins, each one bearing a unique symbol or building specific to the respective state. The series began in 2006 and a new coin was minted each year, in order of the rotating presidency of the Bundesrat (the upper house of the German parliament representing the federal states).
