The year 2022 marks the 20th anniversary of the introduction of the euro, replacing the franc and becoming the common European currency of the member states of the euro zone.
To mark this occasion, France makes a change to the national sides of the French €1 and €2 coins.
This four-coin set (quadriptych), minted to the highest proof quality, contains the last of the old design €1 and €2 coins of 2021 and also the first of the new design €1 and €2 coins of 2022.
Designed almost 20 years apart by Joaquin Jiménez, General Engraver of the Monnaie de Paris, this allows us to to observe the evolution of the French national euro sides.
The two €1 coins are produced exclusively for this set, as well as for the Proof and BU series 2021 and 2022, and will not be minted for circulation.
