This series is based on literary styles and authors who have marked the history of literature in France and abroad.
The strike is made with a High Relief to highlight the author's profile.
William Shakespeare was born in England in 1564, and left such an indelible mark on the language of his country that the English language is still often referred to as “Shakespeare’s language”.
Equally gifted in comedy and tragedy, he wrote no less than 37 dramatic works, including the famous Romeo & Juliet and Hamlet.
On the reverse, Shakespeare's face is divided between life and death, recalling the famous "to be or not to be" of Hamlet. The left side of the face adopts the features of Shakespeare wearing a fool's hat. The right side is a skull under a crown.
