2 euro coin honoring 200 years since the foundation of the Estate Museum of Carniola.
Today's National Museum of Slovenia was founded in 1821 as the Estate Museum of Carniola. Five years later, the Austrian Emperor Francis I decided to personally sponsor the museum and ordered its renaming to Provincial Museum of Carniola. In 1882, the museum was renamed to Provincial Museum of Carniola - Rudolfinum in honour of the Crown Prince Rudolph.
The design is the Vače situla, where the bands are a graphical symbol for the layers of history in the form of the various names that the institution has borne in its 200-year history.
The coin’s outer ring bears the 12 stars of the European flag.
