Portugal’s Presidency of the Council of the European Union 2021 will be held within the long-term framework of the 2019-2024 Strategic Agenda, which prioritizes the strengthening of the European model, and the protection of European citizens, companies and organizations, and of the European way of life.

The Covid-19 pandemic that hit the world in 2020 has challenged Portugal to an even greater responsibility of setting up specific lines of action for the 1st semester 2021: help Europe recover from economic damage; reduce external dependency and defend strategic autonomy of Europe; develop the Union’s civil protection mechanism.
