The Tarxien Temples are an archaeological complex in Tarxien, Malta, consisting of three separate, but attached, temple structures dating to approximately 3150 BC.
The site was accepted as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1992 along with the other Megalithic temples on the island of Malta.
The coin reverse shows the common €2 side. The obverse (national side), designed by Noel Galea Bason, shows a representation of Tarxien Temples.
The €2 commemorative coin has only been issued with a low limit of 181,000 coins (150,000 uncirculated in rolls without any mint mark, 11,000 in the BU sets, and 20,000 in BU quality packaged in a coin card with the French cornucopia mint mark only).
