Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the European Soccer (Football) Championship was postponed in 2020.

The 20 euro silver coin “European Football Championship 2020” was therefore issued in 2021, with the year date of the coin listed as 2020 (probably because the coins had already been minted at the time of the postponement).

The tournament was played in June and July 2021 in twelve different stadiums distributed in a number of different UEFA member countries. The championship was won by Italy after beating England in the final at Wembley Stadium in London on penalties.

The reverse has the German eagle, the words “BUNDESREPUBLIK DEUTSCHLAND”, the value and denomination, the letter “J” for the Hamburg Mint, the year 2020, and the twelve stars of Europe.
