The 15th release in the annual German Federation series features Sachsen-Anhalt.

The design features Magdeburg Cathedral.

The federal states series consists of a total of 16 different €2 coins, each one bearing a unique symbol or building specific to the respective state. The series began in 2006 and a new coin is minted each year, in order of the rotating presidency of the Bundesrat (the upper house of the German parliament representing the federal states).

The remaining Federal State will be honored in 2022 (Thuringen).
