This coin celebrates the life and work of Ludwig van Beethoven (1770-1827), the great German composer and pianist.

The obverse features a powerful and vivid image of Beethoven in a pose that is open to interpretation. He is shown listening intently and digesting what he hears. At the same time, this gesture invites the observer to listen, too.

The reverse has the German eagle, the words “BUNDESREPUBLIK DEUTSCHLAND”, the value and denomination, the letter “F” for the State Mint of Baden-Württemberg in Stuttgart, the year 2020, and the twelve stars of Europe.
