This coin was issued in remembrance of the 150th anniversary of the death of one the most important modern Greek poets, Andreas Kalvos (1792-1869).

Combining a solid neoclassicist education with the high ideals of Romanticism and archaicising with demotic Greek, Kalvos expressed both the revolutionary ideas of his time and his personal vision.
