This coin is the third in a series of seven that will honor Malta's prehistoric monuments that are listed by UNESCO as World Heritage Sites.
Mnajdra Temples in Qrendi lie in very close proximity to the Ħaġar Qim Temples. Mnajdra dates to 3,600-3,200 B.C. and is one of the oldest free-standing monuments in the world. The site was first excavated in 1840 and is best known for its astronomical alignments. Mnajdra is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The obverse shows a representation of the Mnajdra temples. The reverse carries the common design for the 2 euro coin.
The €2 commemorative coin has only been issued with a low limit of 320,000 coins (285,000 uncirculated in rolls without any mint mark, 15,000 in the BU sets with F mint mark only, and 20,000 in BU quality packaged in a coin card with the French cornucopia mint mark only).
