This issue commemorates the 50th anniversary of the worldwide student revolts in 1968.
On Tuesday, February 7, 1968 - months before the student protests in Paris and Nanterre even started - after weeks of uproar and tumult at Leuven University, the government of Paul Vanden Boeynants came tumbling down. Belgium was the only country in Western Europe where the student protest movement brought the government to its knees.
The coin card has one side with French text and one side with Dutch text. The obverse of the coin faces a specific language on approx. half the coins, making them have two versions according to which language is featured with the thematic side of the coin. |
