Mint of Finland honors the 100th anniversary of the birth of philosopher Georg Henrik von Wright with a commemorative €2 coin issue.

Considered the most influential Finnish philosopher of the 20th century, Georg Henrik von Wright (1916–2003) is remembered as a liberal and diverse philosopher and scholar of Finnish society. In addition to holding a chair at the University of Helsinki, he succeeded Ludwig Wittgenstein as professor at the University of Cambridge. Von Wright's ground-breaking studies in logic, the philosophy of science and the philosophy of action put Finnish philosophy in the international spotlight. von Wright also expressed his opinions on many phenomena of his times and was a familiar figure on television, in the press and on marches for peace.

At the center on the reverse of the coin is an ancient Doric pillar with an oak branch at the left. The inscription GEORG HENRIK VON WRIGHT is placed in semi-circle from left to right. The coin’s outer ring depicts the 12 stars of the European flag. The common reverse shows a map of the European Union.
