Designed by Erik Spiekermann, this €2 commemorative coin commemorates 25 Years of German Unity.
The mandate which the German constitution gave to the German people "to complete the unity and freedom of Germany" was fulfilled on 3 October 1990.
The coin depicts the Brandenburg Gate in the foreground, the most famous monument of East Berlin during the Cold War. The two designs of the gate are embedded like two hands, a symbol of the reunification of two peoples. |
