Spyridon "Spyros" Louis (1873-1940) was a Greek water-carrier who won the first modern-day Olympic marathon at the 1896 Athens Olympics, thereby becoming a national hero.
This is the first year that the Bank of Greece has released proof quality 2 euro coins as single items as opposed to being in the annual proof set. |
